Back To Work!!!

Breaking my ankle in September the day after we started tear-out definitely put a damper on bus progress! I didn’t want the boys to work on it without me, but I was casted/in a boot from September-January and working on it in the driveway during a Western NY winter was not an option.

Sean and the boys got the bus up on jacks and were able to get the rims off. We took them to Mark over at Moonlight Powder coating who did a phenomenal job!

We ordered the first two tires from Sam’s Club today and once those are on the rims, the back axle rims will come off and head over to Mark! When all four tires are on, we will have much more flexibility to move the bus around and get it where it needs to go.

Hoping to speak to a contact at BOCES soon to see if they would even be able to consider taking it on as an auto body project, I am positive there is enough work on it to keep them busy, lol!! If not, getting it sandblasted to see what areas of the exterior body are/are not salvageable will likely be our next step.

Here’s what we know that we definitely need:

-a new floor pan for the front seat floor area

-a back bumper (we have a replacement front bumper already)

-floor pan for the engine area/battery area

-new window seals

-VW logo for the front

The ceiling/floor in the back part of the interior is in decent shape (minus a square cut out that needs to be covered).

Slow but steady wins the race, right?!
